Xreos A book for money lent between friends

Friday night · four people · one bill

I'll cover it, we'll sort it out later.

Everyone says it, and everyone forgets it. Xreos is the book where it stays written down: who lent how much to whom, when, and until when. When it's time to ask, Xreos has the first line ready. No bank, no money changing hands. Just what would otherwise get fuzzy in your head.

How you remember it

Tom covers the whole bill. 84 euros, the four of us, we'll sort it out later.

What the book says

€84.00 split · 3 entries of €21.00 · Tom, Anna, Lea

01 · Split

One person covers the bill for four

Friday night, Tom covers the whole bill. In Xreos he types two things: the amount and how many people were at the table. From that, Xreos makes a separate entry for each person, with name, amount, and date. Not “the 84 euros from the other day” but “Anna, 21 euros, since Friday.” Try the math here; it's the same as in the app.

€84.00 ÷ 4, including you

  • Anna €21.00
  • Lea €21.00
  • Jonas €21.00
  • You €21.00

Everyone else gets their own entry. Your share isn't added; you paid it.

02 · Two numbers

What you're owed, what you owe

When you open Xreos, there are two numbers at the top. Never one. What you're owed and what you owe stay separate, because behind each number are different people and different due dates. Flip the switch and see what gets lost when you net them out.

You're owed

€63.50

Tom 40.00 · Anna 15.00 · Lea 8.50

You owe

€18.00

Mira 18.00 · due Oct 10

03 · Due dates

What's up next is at the top

Every entry in Xreos has a due date, or is marked as having none. That's all you have to do: Xreos sorts entries into “Due,” “Coming up,” and “Later” on its own. Slide today's date back and forth and watch the same four entries change groups. Whatever is at the top is up next.

Due

you're owed €40.00

  • Tom · Concert tickets you're owed €40.00 Open for 4 days

Coming up

you're owed €15.00 · you owe €18.00

  • Anna · Groceries you're owed €15.00 Due Thursday, October 8
  • Mira · Train ticket you owe €18.00 Due Saturday, October 10

No due date

you're owed €8.50

  • Lea · Taxi you're owed €8.50 No due date

Today is Tuesday, October 6. “Coming up” means within the next seven days.

04 · Paying back

You type what Tom pays back. Xreos works out the rest.

Tom has three open entries, €63.50 in all. He pays you back 30. Which entry does it go to? Xreos works that out: it's spread across the entries, oldest first, each one up to what's left on it. Drag the amount up and see how it's spread before you add it. Only what's paid back in full is done. The rest stays open, with its date.

Tom's open entries

€63.50

  • Concert tickets from Sep 15 partial gets €20.00 €20.00 left
  • Dinner from Sep 22 open gets nothing €15.00 left
  • Bottle deposit from Sep 29 open gets nothing €8.50 left

What the app would say Repayment saved.

It's spread starting with the oldest entry.

05 · Asking

The awkward part isn't the math. It's the first sentence.

Asking is the part nobody likes. That's why Xreos writes the first sentence for you. It knows the situation: due date passed, due date ahead, or none agreed. It fills in the name, amount, what it was for, and the date. You pick the tone, change whatever you like, and copy the text into your chat. Nothing gets sent on its own.

Hey Tom, quick reminder about the €40.00 for concert tickets. We had October 2 in mind. Would the next few days work for you?

In the app, the text sits in a field you can edit first.

Xreos doesn't send anything on its own. You decide whether and where to send it.

06 · Everyday life

It's rarely about the money. It's about not having to ask.

The roommate grocery run

I've already asked twice. If I ask a third time, I'm the guy nagging over 23 euros. So I let it go.

With Xreos: the groceries are in there as an entry with a date. When the time comes, you copy the reminder in the tone that suits you both and send it. Two days later you check it off, without it turning into a conversation.

The group trip

Gas station, vacation rental, two dinners out. It's all somewhere in the group chat, between photos.

With Xreos: whoever pays adds it right then and splits it among everyone. At the end of the week, you can see what each person owes you: one number instead of four screenshots.

The partial repayment

He borrowed 20 and paid something back at some point. Ten? Fifteen? You each remember it differently.

With Xreos: the repayment is in the history with its date, and the rest stays open. No arguing over memories; it's there in black and white. And if you want, you can forgive the rest.

  • Not a bank

Xreos doesn't move money and doesn't connect to any bank account. It notes what you sort out between yourselves.

  • Tom doesn't need Xreos

He gets no invite and no email. What you write down is your business.

  • No nagging

No automatic messages, no due dates imposed on you. Repayments and forgiven amounts can be undone.

  • At night too

Dark theme, search across people and entries. On your phone, Xreos is built for the phone, not a squeezed-down desktop page.
